BEHIND THE SCENES:
The 24 Hour Film Challenge 19/09/04
9.00am
We get the title "Pale with Envy" and the genre "comedy". We also get bacon sandwiches. The ideas begin vomiting out of our brains.
Someone wandering around being jealous of things. We declare ourselves geniuses and have another sandwich.
9.30am
Marcus arrives. We tell him our idea. He metaphorically puffs on a pipe before venturing his own take on the plan. WHAT DOES HE KEEP IN THAT METAPHORICAL PIPE?
We are now making a biblical epic. We have another sandwich and begin to type...
10.30am
The script relay is over. We have 3-and-a-half pages of fried comedy gold. Our first crisis: We have run out of sandwiches. Luckily there are scones on the way.
Paul arrives and looks at the script. He decides it's lacking in something. It's obvious now we look at it again: our script does not have a flying saucer in it.
10.35am
Our script has a flying saucer in it.
11.00am
Shopping trip. We need a big cake and some cardboard boxes. We also go looking for a blank-firing gun.
We don't particularly need one for this film but it would be nice to have.
12.00pm
The gun arrives. Stephen declares we will not be using it. James opines that it would be perfectly safe. Paul suggests that we tell it to Brandon Lee. James concedes. We have scones.
12.30pm
We are in a back alley filming a cop chase. Interesting grafitti. We learn that Jordan licks crack 4 smack, which was news to us.
1.00pm
We are back at HQ. Paul has gone to wrangle a UFO. We need zombies and soldiers. Green and black makeup for everyone!
1.30pm
We are in the woods filming soldiers in shorts and two-tone socks. They must be reservists.
2.00pm
ZOMBIES!
4.00pm
There's a car screeching round the corner at, oh, 7 miles per hour. Welcome to the kidnap scene.
5.00pm
Round to Stephen's to film the first and last scenes. So far we only seem to have a minute-and-a-half of film.
We tell George to act slowly.
6.00pm
Stephen's kitchen. George has a face full of flan and our lights are on fire.
Bet this is what it was like on the set of "Bad Boys II"
6.30pm
And that's a wrap!
8.00pm
Paul arrives with some UFO footage. It's amazing what a bit of patience and a camera in the right place can achieve.
Marcus films his notebook with George the cat giving expert advice. Presto - a credit sequence.
And we edit into the night, adding 200 odd keyframes worth of the wrath of God smacking George the actor upside the head.
2.30am
Stick a fork in us: we're done.
